Practices Of Looking deals with the relevance of feminist and gender topics, continuing the work of revealing society’s latent chauvinist attitudes towards the composure, representation and public appearance of the human body. In this piece the artist has been gathering knowledge in how people look at their genitals by using mirrors. The participants are bringing their gaze inward and away from commercial representations of sexuality in the patriarchal, lack-inducing, mass media.
A very important motivation for the project has been to discover and perpetuate knowledge about the female history in terms of using the mirror for self-examination. Every photo session has been prepared by emails and close conversations with the participants. This is an ongoing project that today consists of fifty images.
